Clarity to Action: Four Steps to Creating a Life You Love

A young Russian soldier mans a lonely guard post at a country crossroad. When the soldier is startled out of his night vigil by someone approaching his checkpoint, he leaps forth and says, "Halt! Who are you? Where are you going? How are you getting there?"

The soldier then recognizes that the stranger is none other than the village priest. Yet rather than accept the soldier's apologies, the priest offers to pay the young man 30 rubles to ask him those same questions every day as he makes his way to church.

Creating a fulfilling, balanced life requires consciously identifying what success means to you and clarifying what is most important. The point of the above story is that in answering these questions, you are taking charge of designing the life you want.

Discover Your Light's Four Steps

1. Clarity—What do I really want?

If your success is not on your terms, if it looks good to the world but doesn't feel good in your heart, then it is not success at all. -Anna Quindlen

Through a variety of time-tested tools (worksheets, hands-on assessments, visualizations, powerful questions, journaling, and homework assignments), Debra helps you identify what is most important to you. Areas explored include: key values, strengths, definition of success, passions, money, life purpose, and personal vision.

2. Direction—Where am I going?

If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there. —Lewis Carroll

Based upon these new insights, you develop goals that are meaningful, fulfilling and challenging. Debra guides you in creating a workable plan with a compelling vision, concrete action steps, target completion dates, and strategies to overcome obstacles to success.

3. Action—What do I need to do to get there?

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there. —Will Rogers

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. -Walt Disney

Coaching reinforces your personal commitment to your plan by providing regular accountability and structure. Think of coaching as a personal trainer for your life. You build momentum and stay on track. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that successful people doggedly persist in taking action towards their goals, despite failures and other obstacles. Baby steps will lead to big results over time.

4. Support—Can I do it?

If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right. —Mary Kay Ash

Change and transition bring inevitable bumps in the road. Following your dreams can raise fears associated with stepping out of your comfort zone. The time it takes to learn new skills and roles can be discouraging. Debra will remind you of your vision, help you learn from your failures, pinpoint your internal saboteur, celebrate your successes and help you adjust your goals and action plan as necessary. You will create a strong support network both personally and professionally to ensure success.
